The boy who was not brought to the capital Male on time from his island G.A. Villingili for emergency treatment has lost his life.

The 13-year-old boy died at 11:10 am on Saturday, the IGMH confirmed to Atoll Times. He died while undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital.

The child's family told some media outlets that the child's condition worsened due to the delay in bringing him to Male. The child was brought to the IGMH on Thursday.

The people of Villingili had come out to the streets, protesting in front of the Atoll Hospital in the island for the delay of transport on Thursday

“We have told the patient's family that we were ready with the Aasandha and other treatment arrangements,” hospital director Shamveel Mohammed told Atoll Times at the time.

"However, the delay was because of the chartered flight. The flight was delayed. The flight delay is not a problem that can be solved by the hospital”.

He said the authorities had worked hard to get the flight on the move as soon as possible. It is understandable that there will be concerns and dissatisfaction from the family, even if there is a slight delay as it is a case of a critically ill patient, he said.
