President Mohammed Muizzu has said that priority will be given to those who have been marginalised in the community, including senior citizens in government housing projects.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the senior citizens’ social centre established in Male under the week 14 pledges of this government on Saturday.

"...lost, uncared for, not on the government's radar, always set aside [there are some members in the community]. In budgetary terms or in providing different kinds of resources, it is my intention to run the country by mainstreaming those who are neglected in various issues and putting them in the middle of the radar," he said.

He said the government will set conditions for the housing projects to provide opportunities to those who are neglected in the society. Thus:

  • A special bill will be submitted to parliament in the near future

  • This, he pointed out, is a bill on determining the classes and categories of housing

"When the bill is being drafted, it will be done as I said [to pay attention to the marginalised]," he said.

"The biggest problem facing senior citizens now is housing. Special attention will be given to them in the future in various housing projects”.

In his speech, the President noted that giving priority to senior citizens and those who are marginalised in society and making them stronger will benefit the entire country.
