The Election Commission (EC) has threatened to take legal action against those who commit anti-campaign acts during the ongoing parliamentary election campaign.
The EC said in a statement that no candidate should do anything that could infringe the electoral rights of another candidate in efforts to seek support.
The law also prohibits use of false information about another candidate in campaigns.
Despite the law, the EC said it had noticed anti-campaign practices in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
“The posters and banners used to gain support are circulating messages that infringe on a candidate’s electoral rights,” the statement said.
The EC has urged all candidates not to engage in such acts and to abide by the Code of Conduct stipulated in the General Rules of Elections.
"Legal action will be taken against those who commit such acts," EC said.
The ruling main party, PNC, on Thursday said it would take up the matter with the Election Commission, accusing the main opposition party, MDP of anti-campaigning in the parliamentary elections.
