The power outage issue in the city of H.Dh.Kulhudhuffushi has been resolved finally and electricity has been restored to the entire city.

A control module of three generators was gutted due to a problem with a transformer and power supply was cut off from the entire Kulhudhuffushi at around 9.15 am.

Fenaka said the problem has been resolved and power service has been restored to Kulhudhuffushi at 8:10 pm on Monday evening.

"Further investigations are underway into today's incident," Fenaka said in a post on X.

A team from STELCO had also gone to the island to provide technical assistance in resolving the power problem. Fenaka thanked the management and technical staff of STELCO.

STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahumy also took to X and thanked the employees for their hard work.

However, the city experienced another blackout on Tuesday morning. Fenaka said the power outage was caused by a dynamo issue in one of the generators as the replacement generator was being installed.

"But the issue has now been resolved and power has been restored to the whole city," the company said shortly after noon.

Kulhudhuffushi has been experiencing a lot of power cuts lately, most frequently throughout the month of Ramadan. Unresolved for so long, the people also protested a week ago. Thus:

  • The protesters gathered near the Fenaka office and tried to enter the power plant

  • In addition to resolving the issue as soon as possible, the protesters also called for the resignation of the Managing Director of Fenaka

Fenaka says it is continuously working to find a permanent solution to the electricity problem in Kulhudhuffushi.
