President Mohammed Muizzu has responded to allegations of corruption, saying that he would never compromise the rights of the people and that no matter how many such allegations are made, nobody will be able to show anything done in such a manner.

The President was referring to the opposition MDP and PNF calling for an investigation into allegations of corruption during his tenure as housing minister on Tuesday.

Speaking at the government candidate from Galolhu South constituency, Ibrahim Mohamed’s campaign meeting held in Male last evening, the president vehemently denied the allegations.

Speaking on the allegations, the President said:

  • His row-house is rented to foreigners

  • The documents circulating alleging corruption contain the rent of the two apartments rented at the row-house

  • A fake police intelligence report is being spread; a draft without stamp or date

  • The property he inherited from his father is listed in the report

  • The last five years opposition was in government, if there was anything done wrong, it would have come to light

"I have never done anything against the law and regulations then, I will not do it today and I will not do it in the future. I am not a person who will be swayed by wealth in my path of service. For me, attaining God’s favour and forgiveness is more important," he said.

The President said the rumours were also “blasphemous lies” spread by the opposition to discredit the government in the run-up to the elections. The President said that such allegations had been made on the occasion of the mayoral election in the past. But even then, the opposition could not win because he would not have done such a thing.

"So even if you try to put something on my head like that, something that has not happened in the past, it will not happen again. Even if they scour the sky and the ground, there is not one thing they can show against me," he said.

The issue of allegations against the President came to light after an account operating under the name 'Hassan Kurusee' in X posted documents alleging corruption links on Monday.

  • The account released documents allegedly from the police and the MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)

  • The documents allegedly showed transactions that facilitated corruption; he was also accused with money laundering and fraud
