Aasandha has announced the first 37 people to receive free In vitro fertilisation (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) treatment for people with infertility problems.

Inclusion of IVF treatment in Aasandha is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 100 day pledges.

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has set a procedure for providing the treatment and each year the beneficiaries will be determined after being shortlisted, receiving highest points for meeting the criteria and requirements set by NSPA.

NSPA released the beneficiaries of the first round of IVF treatment on Tuesday.

The agency said 153 people applied for assistance in the first round.

The NSPA announcement said:

  • This year, 100 couples will be provided with IVF treatment

  • As of May 15, 37 of the 153 applicants were eligible for assistance under the rule

NSPA says it will reach out to the selected couples in the first round with the treatment plan.

In addition, NSPA said:

  • Those who have not submitted their documents by May 15 and those who wish to apply for new assistance will be able to submit their forms and documents at the end of this month

  • Those who have been declared non-eligible for assistance and whose situation has now changed can also apply for assistance in that period

IVF services in the country are currently only available at Tree Top Hospital, a private hospital. Tree Top charges MVR 46,000 for this service.
