The road around Central Park in Hulhumale, Bageecha Hingun, will be converted into a one-way street and will be opened next Saturday, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said.
According to HDC, work is now underway to make changes to the road to allow one-way traffic. These include placing stone columns to direct traffic in some places and making new road markings.
All the work will be completed and opened to the public next Saturday.
A large area of Central Park has been closed now.
The HDC said the road being changed to one-way was part of a plan to change the traffic flow in some areas of Hulhumale. The HDC added:
-
11 areas of Hulhumale will be changed to solve traffic problems and make it a safer place with fewer accidents
-
To change the traffic flow in the remaining 10 areas, roundabouts will be constructed in some areas
-
The work is expected to be completed within this year
The decision to make the changes to the roads in Hulhumale is due to traffic congestion on some roads, dangerous accidents and other inconveniences to road users.
According to the HDC:
-
The areas to be changed were determined based on police data, considering the busiest and most dangerous traffic on the roads in Hulhumale
-
The changes to the 11 areas will greatly improve the traffic flow in Hulhumale and reduce congestion on the roads
