The post of MDP Male constituency president became vacant following the resignation of former Male mayor Shifa Mohamed.
The party on Friday held by-elections to fill vacant seats in the national assembly and six new constituencies in the parliament after some of its members signed up to The Democrats last year.
Voting for the election was held from 2:30 pm to 9 pm. They include:
-
20 polling stations were set up at Hiriya School and Thajuddin School in Male
-
Ballot boxes were set up in 25 islands in eight constituencies
Azim won the seat by a huge margin against former Male West MP Mohamed Falah. So far, the results show that Azim has received more than 600 votes while Falah has received 200 votes.
Azim, who was formerly a member of the JP, joined the MDP after the last presidential election. He then contested the by-election for Male City Council on the MDP ticket and won the election.
