Maldives is expected to receive a month's worth of rain over the next three days, according to an Al Jazeera weather report.
The national meteorological service (MET) has also warned of severe weather conditions in Maldives this week.
Al Jazeera's weather report predicted heavy rains in the north and Male in the coming days. A month’s worth of rain is expected in the next 72 hours, they said.
The MET office is forecasting heavy rainfall over the next five days.
However, the MET office told Atoll Times on Monday that nothing unusual has been noticed yet as predicted by Al Jazeera.
"The rainfall in Maldives varies from month to month. In the west, for example, it can receive 500-600 mm in May. In the dry months, it can reach 100 mm in January or February," an MET office official said.
"Even today [so far], some parts of the country have received 60 or more millimetres of rain. That's not unusual."
The official said heavy rains are expected to continue over the next three days. The weather has improved somewhat since then, but the office expects rain.
The MET office has issued a yellow alert for all areas except the two southern atolls.
