Maldives foreign minister Moosa Zameer on Monday departed on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement, the Maldivian foreign ministry said the visit is at the invitation of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
The visit, scheduled from Monday to Wednesday, marks a major step in enhancing the bilateral relations between the Maldives and the UAE, it added.
During his visit, Zameer is set to engage in high-level discussions with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other senior officials of the UAE government.
These discussions are expected to focus on furthering cooperation between the two nations in areas of mutual interest, with a view to strengthening the already robust ties between the Maldives and the UAE.
"Minister Zameer’s visit is an important step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between the Maldives and the UAE," the statement read.
This visit follows a series of high-level visits by the foreign minister to several countries, including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
