Maldives' best football personality Ali 'Dhagandey' Ashfaq has been appointed to a top position at parliament speaker's official residence.

A reliable source confirmed to Atoll Times that Ashfaq has been appointed as a director general of the residence.

Ashfaq will be working on protocol work related to the speaker's residence. He was appointed to the position earlier last month.

Ashfaq's salary and allowances are yet to be announced.

Since the government came to power, Ashfaq has been appointed as an ambassador to promote tourism. He has been appointed as an ambassador at a monthly fee of MVR 30,000.

Experienced journalist Adam Haleem was also appointed as the chief of staff of the speaker's residence in late July.

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla moved into his official residence on July 25.

The state has decided to designate a special residence for the speaker of parliament after the May 9, 2021 bombing to assassinate then speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed stayed at the residence for a while but later moved out. Former Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam, who served as the speaker after Nasheed, did not live in the residence.
