Civil Court on Wednesday ordered Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to settle within a month dues amounting to MVR 1.7 million for services ADK Hospital rendered to the country's football governing body.

ADK filed the case in the civil court in 2021 after 15 invoices were not paid for services rendered from the hospital.

  • Dates of invoices – from 14 August to 15 December, 2021

  • Total amount - MVR 1.7 million

Agreeing that this was the due amount, FAM had asked at the Civil Court for a period of one year to settle the dues in equal monthly instalments citing "difficulty to pay [the money] at one go”, but ADK refused to accept the offer.

In such cases, if both parties are unable to agree, the court is burdened with setting a time frame in which the recipient will receive the money at the earliest. Judge Ahmed Nimaal Junaid ruled that directing FAM to pay the amount in one go within a month was the most just way forward.

Recently, there have been other cases of non-payment of FAM-related dues:

  • Power cuts following the non-payment of MVR 6.5 million due to STELCO

  • Non-payment of prize money to players

  • MVR 2.9 million due to former Under 23 national football team coach Rene Hiddink, Netherlands
