The body of Abdulla Rasheed, who died in police custody in late October, was brought back to the Maldives after the postmortem examination and buried Saturday evening.
The body of Rasheed, 42, Sven/G.Dh. Hoadedhdhoo, was sent to India on Monday for postmortem examination for a joint investigation launched by the National Integrity Commission (NIC) and the police to find out whether he had died due to police negligence.

His body was sent abroad for postmortem despite his family objecting to it

The family had filed a petition in the civil court seeking a stay on it; but the court held that it was not possible to pass such an order as it was a prerogative of the police
Rasheed's last rites were performed at Asahara Mosque after Maghrib prayers Saturday evening. His last rites were attended by his family and well-wishers.
The Drug Enforcement Department (DED) police arrested Rasheed in a major drug operation conducted in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll. Three people, including Rasheed, were arrested from Hoadedhdhoo around 3pm on 25 October. Rasheed died on the boat while it was still at harbour, in the middle of transporting the suspects.
