Home minister Imran Abdulla said on Monday that post-mortem examination revealed that there was no negligence on the part of the police in the death of Abdulla Rasheed, who died in police custody in October.
Madaveli MP Hussain Firshan asked the minister about why the family has been kept in the dark on the investigation and enquiry into police conduct.
Replying to the MP's question, Imran said MP Firshan had also done a lot of work in the case of Abdulla Rasheed's death. The home minister said he had shared the details with Firshan.
However, Firshan denied it. He said Imran had not shared any such information with him.
Pointing out that the post-mortem was conducted to ascertain whether there was negligence on the part of the police in the death, the minister said the examination did not establish any police negligence.
"We have no evidence to prove that it happened due to direct police brutality or negligence on the part of the police," Imran said.
Police's Drug Enforcement Department (DED) on October 25, 2020, conducted a special operation at GDh. Hoandehdhoo. Three people, including Abdulla Rasheed, were arrested from Hondedhoo. While trying to take them away from the island to another location, Abdulla died on the boat while the boat was still docked in the island's harbour.
