Four men were arrested and remanded on Thursday in connection with a series of fights in capital Male.

The suspects, aged 21 and 23, face charges of assault involving the use of sharp weapons. The group includes two 21-year-olds, a 22-year-old, and a 23-year-old.

The four men were initially taken to the ADh. Mahibadhooo Magistrate’s Court for a remand hearing. Following court proceedings, they were transferred to Dhoonidhoo Jail and later presented before the Criminal Court for a final remand decision.

According to police reports, the arrests were made in a island in the ADh. Atoll or off the coast of the surrounding area.

Police informed the court that the four men were detained due to their involvement in a "series of ongoing fighting offences."

An intelligence report provided by police outlined the causes of the fight and identified the individuals involved, although these details were not included in the court order. Evidence submitted to the court indicates physical injuries were inflicted during the fight, and police allege that the four men were directly involved. Records show the men have previously been arrested for various offences.

Criminal Court Judge Mohamed Misbah ordered that the suspects remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial.

Police have yet to release an official statement on the incidents.
