STELCO has projected that the electricity load peak in the Male region will reach 133 MW during the warmer season.

STELCO conducts annual public awareness sessions through the media to inform the public about precautions when using electricity during the hot season.

Speaking at an energy awareness session held at STELCO’s training room on Wednesday, STELCO electrical engineer Ismail Nishar stated that the load peak this warmer season is expected to be higher than in previous years.

Presenting a graph on load peaks, Nishar noted that electricity consumption patterns in Male and Hulhumale differ. The peak in Male is typically observed at 2 p.m., whereas Hulhumale experiences the highest consumption between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Nishar provided details of previous load peaks:

  • 2023 – 102 MW

  • 2024 – 112 MW

  • 2025 (forecast) – 133 MW

STELCO will share daily load curves with the public as part of its awareness campaign.

The peak season coincides with Ramadan and school holidays. While STELCO expects the load peak to reach 133 MW, the company noted that it may not reach this level as some residents of Male travel to other islands for the holidays.

The session also provided information on electricity consumption, cost reduction, and other related topics.
