Fire destroys ex-MP Mohamed Rasheed’s house in Hithadhoo

By the time the fire was brought under control, the house had been completely destroyed.

A fire broke out at the residence of former Hithadhoo Central MP Mohamed Rasheed in the early hours of Friday morning, causing complete destruction to the property.

The incident occurred at Garland House in Hithadhoo at around 5:00 am. Mohamed Rasheed posted on social media seeking assistance and stated that nothing in the house was salvaged.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) reported that they received the fire alert at 5:11 am and were able to fully extinguish the flames by 8:05 am. By the time the fire was brought under control, the house had been completely destroyed.

Rasheed, who serves as the vice president of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Addu, stated that no one present in the house at the time sustained injuries.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire.
