
MVR 153,000 on president's UK visit for Liverpool FC campaign

The President’s Office on Thursday stated that MVR 153,689.92 was spent from the state budget for President Mohamed Muizzu’s recent official visit to the United Kingdom.
President Muizzu travelled to the UK from the 1st to the 5th of this month to attend the launch of a tourism promotion campaign organised in partnership with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and English football club Liverpool FC.
The campaign aims to promote Maldives tourism at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium.
While confirming the cost of the trip, the President’s Office did not issue any further comments. It has been reported that some costs were covered by tourism industry representatives, although official details have not been released.
In addition to attending the campaign launch, President Muizzu’s programme in the UK included the following engagements:

Attending the Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton

Visiting Liverpool FC’s AXA Training Centre and discussing development pathways for Maldivian football players

Meeting with Maldivian students studying in Liverpool

Holding discussions with senior representatives of ‘Football for Peace’ at the University Peace Centre
