The Maldives National Meteorological Agency (MET) has forecast rainfall across various parts of the country in the coming weeks, including during the Eid holidays.

Eid al-Adha begins on Friday, and the current weather conditions are expected to persist through the holiday period. According to a MET official, rainfall is anticipated in multiple regions and rough sea conditions are likely.

The country is presently experiencing the effects of the western monsoon. As it is customary for residents to travel to their home islands for Eid celebrations, the prevailing weather may affect travel plans.

The Maldives Police Service has urged the public to plan travel in accordance with the weather forecast. The police have also issued guidelines for safe marine travel.

Precautions for marine travel include:

  • Obtaining the latest weather updates before departure

  • Ensuring passenger and cargo limits are not exceeded

  • Avoiding non-essential travel

  • Meeting all safety requirements onboard vessels

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise the public to stay informed through official channels.
