JSC opens applications for Chief Justice
With Justice Adnan’s retirement, administrative responsibilities of the Supreme Court have been temporarily assigned to Justice Abdulla Hameed.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has opened applications for the post of Chief Justice following the retirement of Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan.
Justice Adnan retired from the post Monday. The JSC has announced that applications for the vacancy must be submitted by 12 noon on Tuesday next week via the commission’s Fahires portal.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be a Muslim and a member of the Sunni community

Be of sound mind
-
Not hold an elected or appointed political office under the Constitution

Not be affiliated with or active in a political party

Not have been convicted of an offence under Islamic law, or offences related to fraud or bribery

Not have been convicted of an offence under the Penal Code, or any immoral act or terrorism, and served a sentence within the past seven years
-
If holding a proven debt, be in compliance with a judgment for repayment
-
Not be serving a sentence for a criminal offence
-
Be at least 30 years of age
In addition, candidates must possess a first degree in Islamic Sharia, or in law and Islamic Sharia, along with a minimum of seven years of experience in the judiciary, legal practice, or both.
The JSC will interview shortlisted candidates and submit a nominated individual to Parliament for approval prior to appointment.

The remaining judges of the court are Aisha Shujoon Mohamed, Ali Rasheed Hussain, Dr Mohamed Ibrahim, Hussain Rashid, and Mohamed Saleem.
