Fenaka Corporation has cancelled water billing for Fuvahmulah for the month of November following service disruptions in the island’s water network.

Fuvahmulah, home to nearly 10,000 residents, experienced widespread issues with its water system last month. Although water services have since been restored, residents have raised concerns about the cleanliness of the drinking water.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Fenaka said the decision to waive the November bill was made after water cuts and low pressure were recorded at various times during recent network works. The company noted that upgrades to the water system are currently underway.

“Therefore, in order to provide relief to the people, we have decided not to bill for water in Fuvahmulah City in November,” the statement said.

Fenaka added that it is taking necessary measures to resolve the issues and restore reliable water service.

The Fuvahmulah City Council has said water contamination has been detected due to a large number of households having cross connections. The council has requested Fenaka not to resume water supply until safety is ensured. However, the council has also decided to take the matter to court to halt distribution of the water.
