Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said on Thursday that about 30 per cent of dredging work at the Rasmale project has been completed.
According to MACL, dredging is being carried out by a subsidiary of the company. A total of 41 hectares have been dredged so far under the project.
MACL said a large cutter suction dredger, Christabel Cologne, has been deployed to increase the pace of work. The dredger has a sand extraction capacity of 64,000 cubic metres.
The company said dredging operations are being expanded, with additional equipment brought in to accelerate progress. MACL said dredging across the Malé region is expected to be completed by March or April.
Rasmale is planned as a carbon-neutral development project, according to MACL.
