The Maldives Police Service on Monday searched a residence in Malé where Sunny Umar lived prior to his arrest, in his presence.
Police said the search was conducted under a court order in connection with an ongoing investigation. The residence, located in Malé, was searched while Sunny Umar was present, after which he was taken back into police custody and transported in a police vehicle.
Sunny Umar, who operates businesses under the Maldives Halal Travel brand and Travelution, was arrested last month on charges of sexual assault. He remains in custody pending trial.
Police confirmed that he continues to be held in custody as investigations proceed.
According to police, the case involves allegations of sexual assault against three children: two girls and one boy. One of the girls and the boy are under the age of 18. The other girl is also alleged to have been assaulted while under the age of 18.
Police have previously stated that the case was reported by a family member of one of the children.
