Vomiting, diarrhoea cases reported across Malé region

Cases of vomiting and diarrhoea have been reported across the Malé region, with hospitals continuing to treat a large number of patients.
People seeking treatment have reported queues at some health facilities. Hospital staff have not released figures on the number of cases, but the illness is reported to have increased since the recent school holidays.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has not issued an official statement on the situation. However, the agency last week shared public guidance on precautions to take when engaging in outdoor activities.
The HPA advised members of the public to drink adequate amounts of water and consume fluids such as oral rehydration solutions and soups. The agency also urged regular handwashing with soap and water, particularly after using the toilet and before preparing food.
The HPA further advised individuals who are unwell to refrain from attending school or work.
