Maumoon among people after long break; red carpet welcome
Sh. Maakandoodhoo people were relocated to Milandhoo and the island was repopulated during president Maumoon's tenure.
Former president and leader of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom visited an island after a long break.
MRM on Wednesday said Maumoon and his wife Nasreena arrived in Sh. Milandhoo in the afternoon. Giving details of the trip, the party said:

His visit to Milandhoo is in response to the council's invitation to participate in the celebration of the island's settlement day

Scores of people from Nilandhoo gathered at the port area to welcome him

Maumoon also visited the council office and met with the councilmen
Sh. Maakandoodhoo people were relocated to Milandhoo and the island was repopulated during president Maumoon's tenure.
Maumoon tweeted that he was delighted to be back in Milandhoo. Maumoon also thanked the people of the island for the warm welcome extended to them.
"The people of Milandhoo are kind folk," Maumoon tweeted.
