Liveaboard runs aground on Maafushi reef after dragging anchor
The grounding occurred as the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) forecast strong winds and rough sea conditions across much of the country.
A liveaboard safari vessel ran aground on the reef off K. Maafushi on Friday morning after dragging its anchor in rough weather.
The vessel, which had been anchored off the island, drifted onto the reef near Maafushi's outer breakwater after its anchor failed to hold. The impact left the vessel wrecked.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Neither the Maldives Police Service nor the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication.

According to MET, wind gusts of up to 50 mph were expected between Haa Alif Atoll and Meemu Atoll. The forecast also warned of rain across large parts of the Maldives, with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected in some areas.
Wave heights were forecast to range between five and seven feet.
