A police research conference is to be held to enhance the participation of citizens and the community and enhance the capabilities of the police in various fields. This will be the first such conference in the country.

The home ministry, police and police board held a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the conference to be held from March 18-20.

Speaking at the meeting, police board chairman Ahmed Faseeh said that such a conference is being held with the aim of making the police service into an institution that involves the participation of the people and the community. During the conference, Faseeh said:

  • An exhibition showcasing the resources of security personnel and their work will be held

  • Security professionals will get an opportunity to exchange views and build relationships

  • It will also be open for submission of research papers

Faseeh, who was earlier the police commissioner, said one of the most important activities to be taken up during the conference would be the presentation of research papers. He said that papers from universities, colleges, police and individuals will be submitted on 10 subjects during the event. These areas are:

  • 1-

    Preventing crime

  • 2-

    National security and counter-terrorism

  • 3-

Fighting financial offences and money laundering

  • 4-

    Cybercrime

  • 5-

"These research papers will be presented, debated, discussed and the results that come out of it will be in the form of a report. So, I think I am very confident that this conference will be very beneficial," Faseeh said.

Police commissioner Mohamed Hameed said that although the police institution has been criticised by many, it should be structured in such a way that it is accountable to the public. He said that he believes that in the light of this conference, the overall quality of services can be improved.

Hameed said the conference:

  • Crime in the society and changes in the public safety system will be clear

  • Can ensure that adequate service is provided to the police, matching the costs of their operations
