Top officers probed for affair with policewoman

An internal investigation has been launched into the alleged sexual relations between senior police officers and a female police officer.

A reliable police source told Atoll Times on Wednesday that the case came to light after a similar sex scandal involving the female officer surfaced and she was questioned in the matter. She brought the senior officers' case to the notice of the police during the interrogation, the source added.

"The female officer alleges that some police officers in the senior ranks committed sexual acts with her. Some other officers also alleged that the police are trying to cover up this case," said the source who has knowledge of the case.

With the allegation of attempted cover up, several police officers have criticised the police top brass. 

According to the source, the female officer, who was recently recruited, said she had evidence of the sexual relations with the senior officers.

“She was blackmailing, saying she had screenshots of senior officers,” the policeman said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The case is being investigated by the economic crime department.

In a message to the media, police said they were investigating a "domestic violence case" against a female police officer.

"The professional standards command is conducting an investigation in the light of information received," police said in the message.

However, police have denied that the case is being covered up or obscured.
