Unlike the booths in the first round of the presidential election, the design of the booths in the second round will be changed to provide more privacy to voters, the Elections Commission said Wednesday.
Unlike previous elections, the booths in the first round of the presidential election on September 9 were set up so that observers and monitors could see the voter's movements. The Elections Commission has been criticised for neglecting on the secrecy of the vote.
The Elections Commission has already announced that it will make changes to the placement of booths in the second round of the presidential election on to be held on Saturday.
Elections Commission Chairman Fuad Thaufeeg tweeted on Wednesday that the design of the polling booths has been changed to maintain the secrecy of the vote. The changes to the booth in the upcoming elections are:
-
The bottom of the booths will be cut off and covers will be put up on both sides
-
Bristol board will be used on the marking table to make marking easier
-
The marking pen will be changed
The changes to the polling booth will allow the voter to enter the booth. However, the booths will still be the same as they were in the first round of elections so that observers and monitors can see the voter's movements.
The Election Commission has also released an example of the booths. The EC has also asked the public to maintain the secrecy of the vote while at the booth.
