The State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) committee of parliament on Wednesday launched an enquiry into complaints that the office of the president-elect is making it difficult for state-owned enterprises to operate in the transitional period.

The committee has received the complaint and has summoned the heads of the Privatisation and Corporatization Board (PCB), the parent body of the companies.

Opening the SOE committee meeting, the committee chairman, MDP MP Ahmed Esa explained the reasons for the decision to produce the PCB. He said:

  • Companies are being told that they cannot do certain things during the transitional phase

  • There have been complaints that middle management level employees are reluctant to follow management's instructions

“Following similar complaints from some MPs and especially from the owners of companies, it was decided to present the PCB officials to the committee to see what is happening,” he said.

"Whether they [the President-elect] have issued such a notice, if so, in what legal capacity... to clarify this information”.
