National meteorological service (MET) on Sunday issued a warning for the next five days as the western monsoon intensifies.

After many days of good weather, rains started in some parts of the country two weeks ago. But even those days, the weather was good for most of the country.

The MET said that the western monsoon has now intensified. According to the service:

  • Winds will be 15 to 25 mph in the north and central parts of the country and 13 to 23 mph in the south over the next five days

  • Winds will be 45 to 55 mph during storms

“Therefore, the sea is expected to be very rough in all parts of the country,” the MET said.

Meanwhile, heavy rain, thunderstorms and flooding are expected during the period.

The MET has advised seafarers not to travel until after checking the weather.
