Bangladesh suspends on-arrival visas ahead of elections

The Bangladesh has temporarily suspended the issuance of on-arrival visas to Maldivian nationals travelling to the country.

The decision takes effect from Thursday and will remain in place until the 15th of next month, in connection with Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday advising Maldivians to take note of the change.

The ministry said Maldivians travelling to Bangladesh during this period should obtain a visa in advance from the Bangladesh High Commission before travel.

Further details on Bangladesh’s visa policies are available on the country’s immigration website, the statement said.

A number of Maldivians are currently studying in Bangladesh, including students enrolled in health-related fields.
