Maldives president invited to Bangladesh govt swearing-in

Mohamed Muizzu has been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government, according to media reports.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won the general election held on Thursday, securing 209 of the 300 seats in parliament.
The election was the first held in Bangladesh since the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024.
Media reports said that Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of the interim government formed after Hasina’s removal, has invited heads of state from 13 countries to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
The new cabinet is scheduled to be sworn in on Tuesday in Dhaka.
Countries reported to have received invitations include China, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, the Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan.
