A dead body has been recovered from the sea area of Vaavu atoll.

The police said on Monday that the body was recovered at around 9 a.m. in the V. Vemparufalhu western sea area.

The body, which was spotted by people who were out for fishing, has been taken to a police boat.

A photo released by those who first spotted the body showed that the body, which had surfaced above the water, was pale and badly decomposed. Sea trash can also be seen attached on top of the floating corpse.

Police said they are looking into other aspects of the case.

The police are also searching for two people who went missing from an oil tanker vessel. A local and two Bangladeshi nationals have gone missing from the boat that took off from Villimale' on 28 December.

In a tweet on Sunday, the police said that the oil boat in which they were travelling was found drifting near the airport. The boat was found the day they were reported missing. There was no one on board when the boat was found, police said.
