Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Sunday said that false news is being spread that the hospital does not have facilities for scanning.

A health worker at IGMH has expressed concern over the lack of certain facilities. The concerns were reported by a local media outlet. The hospital issued a statement addressing it on Sunday.

The statement said that the machines and facilities used for providing health services at the hospital are brought in as per the state finance laws and regulations, depending on the price and level of the items. They are safe for patients and are of high quality accepted by global certifying bodies, the statement said.

"The fact that this hospital does not have a portable machine for scanning [ultrasonography/USG] is factually incorrect. It is submitted that at present, five such machines are being used in this hospital," the statement said.

The statement added:

  • Since the hospital has legal procedures to follow while purchasing goods and ensuring safety and quality, cost reduction should be given priority

  • Sometimes a particular brand of machine sought by departments may find it difficult to find that time

"Since this hospital is the main government hospital that provides health care to the people, it is important to seek a statement from the hospital before publishing a news report that raises questions in the minds of the people about these services and undermines confidence," the statement said.
