ACC rules to prevent abuse of state resources for campaign
Shameel said that as part of the first exercise initiated, a set of guidelines will be issued to prevent the use of state resources for elections.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is all set to come up with special regulations to check the abuse of state resources for campaigning ahead of the presidential elections.
Villimale MP Ahmed Usham expressed concern over the lack of an end to the issue of misuse of state resources in the run-up to the elections and asked what steps ACC has taken to prevent it as the presidential election approaches.
When contacted, ACC President Adam Shameel said that the ACC has now prepared a plan with the Election Commission (EC) to try to curb the malpractices committed by various quarters in connection with the elections. Therefore, the two institutions can work together to achieve good results, Shameel said.
Shameel said that as part of the first exercise initiated, a set of guidelines will be issued to prevent the use of state resources for elections. He also assured that once the policy is framed and made public, it will not be left unimplemented.
"We will also see if the authorities follow the rules," Shameel said.
In the last elections, there have been complaints of misuse of public funds for campaigns by the main ruling party. There is a lot of allegations, especially of using state-owned companies to do so.
