Japanese foreign minister Hayashi Yoshimasa will make an official visit to the Maldives on Saturday, the Maldivian foreign ministry announced on Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said Yoshimasa will be in Maldives from Saturday to Sunday on the invitation of his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid.
During his visit, Hayashi will hold meetings with Shahid and defence minister Mariya Didi, and witness the exchange of notes under the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) between Maldives and Japan.
The visit of Yoshimasa is the highest-level visit by a Japanese government official to the Maldives, since the visit of former foreign minister Taro Kono in January 2018.
