Main ruling People's National Congress (PNC) will not contest three constituencies that the leaders of its coalition partners are contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections, the party announced Thursday.

PNC chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla made the announcement while answering a question at a press conference held at the party's office.

"We have decided that we will not contest the primary for the [Dangethi] constituency contested by MNP leader, retired Colonel [Mohamed] Nazim. We will not contest the seat out of respect for the party leader," he said.

Besides Nazim, the PNC has given up seats to two others for the same reason, he said.
