Ex-Customs chief resigns in 2 days after state minister transfer

Home Minister Ali Ihsan said he is aware that Maniu had sent his resignation letter.

Yusuf Maniu Mohamed, who was recently transferred to State Minister of Homeland Security and Technology while serving as the Commissioner of Customs, has resigned from his post.

Fathmath Diyana, who was Deputy Commissioner of Customs, was appointed as the Commissioner of Customs on Monday.

Maniu, who has been in the post of state minister for less than two days, has now resigned from the post, the Home Ministry confirmed to Atoll Times.

Home Minister Ali Ihsan said he is aware that Maniu had sent his resignation letter.

The appointment and dismissal of state ministers is done by the President's Office. However, it is unclear why Maniu resigned as the President's Office could not be reached for comment.

Maniu, who was the Customs Commissioner, was transferred very abruptly. The government did not disclose the reason for the change.
