Vessel anchoring restricted in Male lagoon for road expansion
The Council said vessels are prohibited from anchoring or remaining anchored in the designated zone until the roadworks are completed and the area is reopened.

The Male City Council has prohibited marine vessels from anchoring in the lagoon between Jetty 5 and Jetty 8 during the widening of the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
The road widening and development project, which began on 21 August, has closed the lagoon from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) to the fish market.
In an announcement on Thursday, the City Council said the Zone 2 coastal area, from Jetty 5 to Jetty 8, along with the west crossing of Fishermen’s Square, will be reserved for passenger vessels from resorts, atolls and other locations. Such vessels may remain in the area only while picking up passengers.
The Council said vessels are prohibited from anchoring or remaining anchored in the designated zone until the roadworks are completed and the area is reopened to the public.
The project has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a cost of MVR 144 million. The works are scheduled to be completed in 455 days, or approximately 15 months.
According to the Ministry of Housing, the project includes:

Widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes

Tarring of an 830-metre stretch of road, from the Hulhumale Ferry Terminal to the Local Market
