Ramadan alms collection to begin on Thursday
Arrangements have also been made to accept Zakat from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs from March 26, 10 am to 1pm.

Alms for the month of Ramadan will be accepted from Thursday, the first day of the fasting month, the Islamic ministry announced Monday.
The ministry said in an announcement on Monday that this year, like every other year, Zakat will be accepted with the amount of 2.4 kg of the prescribed crop. Here are the amount to be paid:

Regular rice – MVR 12

Thai white rice - MVR 84

Red rice - MVR 99

Basmati rice (regular) - MVR 84

Basmati rice (mid-range) – MVR 100

Basmati rice (high-end) – MVR 125

Regular flour - MVR 12

Whole wheat (atta) flour - MVR 75
Going by these numbers, there has been no change in the amount to be paid for regular rice, flours or wheat flour this year, as was the case last year. The amount to be paid for the top quality basmati rice is MVR 7 lower than the previous year.

According to the ministry, Zakat will be accepted from March 23 to April 18. Local councils will accept Fitr Zakat from islands.

Like previous years, this time too, the ministry has made arrangements for online payment of Zakat. Thus:

According to the ministry, Zakat can be paid till the last day of the fasting month through the Bandeyri portal.
Apart from this, arrangements have also been made to accept Zakat from the ministry from March 26 for the elderly and those who are not willing to pay Zakat online.
Ministry will accept Zakat payments from 10 am to 1 pm on official days.
